Music educators at the midpoint of the twenty-first century are learning from trial and error, from reflecting on success, and to a lesser extent, from analyzing their less-successful ventures. History is as important as vision. Teaching and learning in many disciplines have been improved since the beginning of the century; the goals of technology education, mathematics education, language arts education, and similar school-oriented subjects that are reasonably linear in their organization have been amenable to findings in "brain based" research in teaching and learning.
