A recent report to faculty from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) included a policy alert (NASM 2000) regarding a report that Florida universities were considering an increase in their general education requirements from the current thirty-six units to fifty-one units. Such an increase was viewed as potentially damaging to music degree programs in Florida and was said to warrant a watchful eye.
