On March 26, 2004, the New York Philharmonic celebrated the eightieth anniversary of its Young People's Concerts (YPCs). Known best through televised broadcasts of the Saturday afternoon format developed by Leonard Bernstein, these concerts set the standard for performing arts institutions' efforts to enhance musical understanding and appreciation through live performance.
