This year's International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam was overshadowed by the shocking terrorist attacks in the US. Stand screens formed what became a huge electronic cinema during set-up before the, start of the show, grimly relaying unfolding events to disbelieving technicians and staff. Tragically, it felt like "the world's electronic media event, in more ways than one".
The organisers had considered cancelling the show but decided to go ahead at 12.03pm on Friday after observing the EU-promoted three-minute silence.
