The broadcast scene in Singapore took a hit in 2001 as the global slowdown took its toll on the industry. Even international broadcasters, many of whom have their Asia Pacific operations headquartered in Singapore, were not spared. MTV and Nickelodeon, for example, announced sweeping staff cuts in the last quarter of the year in a bid to cut costs.
