Year 2001 will be well remembered as one of the most crucial stepping stones in the history of the Indonesian television industry. This year saw several changes in the ownership of major networks, other new players rushed to get their signals broadcast, and government-run television TVRI broke its 20-year ban on running commercials and going head-to-head with commercial station.
