For decades past, media has always been the forte of the Lopezes, who were originally sugar barons from southern Philippines in the early 20th century. From this simple staple, they were able to venture successfully into other industries such as electricity, water, telephony, and media.
The late Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr. rebuilt ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp -- now considered the Philippines' largest media conglomerate -- in the mid 1980s.
