The Asian market is foraging through the HD arena with preliminary trials in feature films, documentaries, and selected commercials. Asia's anaemic economic situation is a double-edged sword for the region's filmmaking and television production community.

On one hand, budgets and investments have been tight; on the other hand, lower cost formats like digital video (DV) have not won converts to it being a high quality output format. This augurs well for HD as the market is open to explore better quality and affordable technology to maintain a status quo of revenue and work.
