The Ministry of Economic Affairs has launched the Digital Television Strategic Alliance (DTSA) comprising government agencies, research institutions terrestrial TV stations, cable TV operators, telecommunications firms and manufacturers, and distributors of home appliances. A ranking official of the ministry's Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) said that the primary function of the DTSA will be to facilitate the government's goal of achieving 85 per cent penetration by digital television by 2006.
