A Thai directed science fiction flint, Tropical Malady, has been nominated for the Palme d'Or or Golden Palm award at this year's Cannes International Film Festival--a first for the local film industry.
Tropical Malady directed by 33-year-old Apichatpong Weerasethakul was among 18 films nominated for the top award. The 125-minute film's storyline is a political drama that also explores the passionate relationship between two men "that has unusual consequences".
