The Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has banned any channel cooperation between local television and radio stations and overseas companies. Domestic channels cannot sell airtime to foreign entities, set-up joint operations, or cooperate for regular or live programmes.

SARFT's provincial branches have to approve any kind of collaboration. But this is being widely seen as a reiteration of long-held policy rather than any new direction for China's television market.
