The great filmmaker Jean-Pierre Melville has an art-house reputation for bleak, stylised film noir. But the digitally restored version of his 1969 World War II masterpiece "L'Armee des Ombres" (Army of Shadows) brilliantly illuminates this semi-fictional account of the French Resistance.
