It was only last year that two significant milestones were passed in video tape recording--fifty years since Ampex launched the first VTR, and thirty years since JVC unleashed its all-conquering VHS video cassette recorder, ultimately feeding a vast appetite for home video. JVC was recently granted a prestigious Milestone award by the IEEE, the world's largest electrical engineering institution, following the manufacture of more than 900 million VHS video decks.
