Alstom's localised Service operations, backed by its UK-based technical experts, teamed up with customer KCRC to bring new life to Hong Kong's East Rail Division fleet

On December 22nd 1999, the Hong Kong-based operations of Alstom's Service Business handed over to customer Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) the last of 29 trains to undergo refurbishment. Chris Fayle, Operations Manager for Alstom Transport Hong-Kong recalls, "the hand-over was celebrated in true Hong Kong style with formal speeches, an impressive `Golden' Lion Dance and the cutting of a roasted pig." Mike Yeoman, General Manager for East Rail division at the time, commented, "People think they are travelling on new trains."
