Construction work is underway on what is to become the world's longest fully automatic metro line. The new 5.4 km Manna Line will represent the first phase of an ambitious 36 km network project, which will circle the island of Singapore and link other existing lines. The entire project, known as the Circle Line, will be built in stages as a medium capacity, orbital line. The Circle Line will eventually link all radial rapid transit lines running into the city. This will allow commuters to bypass the city centre, thus cutting travelling time by up to half.
