A petrological study to determine the location of the 'Passio Sanctorum Quattor Coronatorum' rejects Pannonia, Fruska Gora, Yugoslavia, as the site of the Roman quarry Mons Porphyreticus. The quarries at Mons Porphyrites, Egypt, are suggested as the most likely work site of the five martyrs in the book. This conclusion is based on magnetic susceptibility measurements of several rock samples and the fact that the term porphyry was equated with Egyptian porphyry during the reign of Diocletian.
