Independent stations file antitrust lawsuit against Shell, Texaco.(Brief Article)

United States -- Independent petrol-station owners in June filed an antitrust lawsuit accusing Texaco Inc., Shell Oil Co. and a Saudi Arabian oil company of conspiring to fix petrol prices and force them out of business. The independent owners said Shell, Texaco and Saudi Refining Inc. have tried to use joint marketing agreements to fix prices while raising rents and the wholesale price dealers must pay for petrol. The owners said the goal is to replace small independents with bigger, company-owned operations.

Oil-company representatives said the allegations were false.
