W. Hodding Carter, III was honored by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) when he received the Burton Benjamin Memorial Award for lifetime achievement in the cause of press freedom at an awards ceremony in New York City in November. Carter spent almost 18 years as a reporter, editorial writer, editor and associate publisher of his family's newspaper, the Delta Democrat Times, in Greenville, Mississippi.
