Members of the Law and Courts section saw the American Judicature Society Award conferred upon Melinda Gann Hall of Michigan State University for her paper, "Competition in Judicial Elections, 1980-1985." The award is given for the best paper on law and courts presented at the previous year's annual meetings of the American, Midwest, Northeastern, Southern, Southwestern, or Western Political Science Associations.
Douglas Reed of Georgetown University received an honorable mention for "I Can Play That: Social Movement Repertoires and State Constitutional Politics." The Congressional Quarterly Press Award, conferred for the best graduate student paper presented during 1998, was given to Joshua Clinton of Stanford University for his work, "An Independent Judiciary?...
