Wanted: Police Who Think Like Killers.(crime in Japan)(Brief Article)

Yuki Nishimura thinks like a serial killer. The 34-year-old psychiatrist analyzes criminal behavior and is the only so-called profiler at Japan's National Police Agency (NPA). She recently completed a five-year study that gave Japan's cops low marks for their failure to stem violent crime. The report remains classified, but Nishimura doesn't hide her intention to remake Japan's police procedures--or her worry that the nation faces a new breed of psychopath. She recently met with NEWSWEEK's George Wehrfritz and Hideko Takayama in her office outside Tokyo. Excerpts:
