So far, the war against terror has been a relatively small affair--but the jingoism quotient is as high as can be. The headlines tell it all. FOUND HIM? POUND HIM! screamed the tabloid New York Post last week. CNN's on-screen banner dramatically announces AMERICA STRIKES BACK. The tabloid media daily splash motifs of "revenge" and "obliteration" across front pages and TV screens. And there is talk of "smoking" the terrorists "out of their caves," as if they were vermin, and "killing the bastards."
