A team of UCLA researchers led by Electrical Engineering Professor Ioannis Kanellakopoulos has developed an "Advanced Vehicle Control Laboratory on Wheels." It tests concepts envisioned for vehicles of the future.

Features currently being tested are Drive-by-Wire, Steer-by-Wire, and distance sensing. Drive-by-Wire allows the speed of a vehicle to be controlled without the need for any mechanical linkage connecting the accelerator and the throttle.
