Based on the positive feedback from the fiction stories he published in Science & Invention, Hugo Gernsback started a new magazine devoted solely to the fledgling science-fiction market. Volume 1, No. 1 of Amazing Stories hit the newsstands, featuring several short stories such as H. G. Wells "The New Accelerator" and the novel "Off on a Comet" by Jules Verne.
