I try hard to proof my copy so that oddball things don't happen between my screen and the magazine page. I use WordPerfect 8 so that I can have a good idea how the final copy will appear, but it has a few quirks that I have to watch. For instance, if I type the standard fraction "1/2," WordPerfect will sling it into a single character that looks great on the page, but falls out to a "+" in my conversion to ASCII to send to the other Ship where the editors live. ...
