Let It Glow
Designer Regine Basba is ready for the world to see the light-literally-with her line of handbags. The pieces are defined by a subtle glow that outlines the silhouette or crisscrosses it, corset-style, with illumination created by two double-A batteries tucked into a small pocket inside. Basha says she considers herself "part designer and part electrician," which isn't surprising, since she's spent the past four years perfecting her novel idea. Her first prototype began with an oversize battery pack, masking tape, wires and Velcro. The final, ref med product debuted in 2002, and now clutches and over-the-shoulder styles shine in such eye-popping shades of leather and suede as bright yellow, pink and purple.
