The Solar Buildings Program of the U.S. Department of Energy will fund four home building teams working on introducing the Zero Energy concept to the home building industry.. The goal is to combine commercially available renewable energy technologies, such as solar power, with innovative energy-efficiency techniques to create home prototypes and pilot projects that have zero net annual need for nonrenewable energy.
Steven Winter Associates will work with Beazer Homes, Mercedes Homes and Bradley Builders, and ConSol will work with Centex, Shea Homes, WL Homes and Pardee. The other teams are Davis Energy Group with Centex, and the NAHB Research Center with home builder John Wesley Miller. For details, visit www.eren.doe.govlsolarbuildings.
