AURORA, IL -- William (Bill) Sayles Wake, chairman of Eby-Brown Co., passed away on July 24. Though Wake retired from the company in 1983, he remained on as chairman until his death.

Wake began his Eby-Brown career in the late 1940s as a salesperson, and bought Aurora Eby-Brown in 1957 with a partner. He sold the company to two of his sons in 1983, relinquishing day-to-day management of the business.

Wake received numerous civic and industry awards over the years, including election to the NATD Hall of Fame.
