Abrasives: Not the same old grind Yes, prices are still high and leadtimes are still extended. But change is coming--and manufacturers are introducing a host of new products. Abrasives buyers tired of rising prices and long leads should soon be seeing a reprieve of sorts. That is, if the economy slows and inflation stays in line.

That's the consensus of abrasives manufacturers who point to a strong industrial economy when asked about prices and leadtimes. A steady stream of orders and tight raw materials supplies have pushed prices up some 8% already this year, while leads continue to hover in the 4- to 8-week range.
