As a result of a West Michigan collaborative of business people to promote economic growth in manufacturing, suppliers to several of the largest office furniture manufacturers are being encouraged to become ISO 9000 certified. Considered a milestone for this very competitive industry, the four largest manufacturers in the area--Haworth, Steelcase, Knoll, and Herman Miller--pooled their own quality system certification programs and developed one standard, based on ISO 9000, for use by their suppliers.
