When Honeywell swapped a pack of suppliers for one close partnership.

In 1992, following a major change in its procurement strategy, the Home & Building Control Div. of Honeywell Inc. selected Ryerson Tull Inc. as its sole metals supplier, with materials to be supplied by Joseph T. Ryerson & Son and Ryerson Coil Processing.

"Even though we were able to buy truckload quantities from many of the mills, our procurement practices added up to too many suppliers, too much paperwork, and too much inventory," recalls Tom Jacobsen, supply manager of the Honeywell division. "We believed that by forming a strong relationship with a world-class supplier, we could meet and surpass the ever-increasing demands of the market."
