A word to buyers who think the World WIde Web is just a waste of time: You aren't using it properly. Leading purchasing organizations are not just surfing the Web to find new suppliers or the latest spot prices. Instead, buying groups at companies like Sony Corp., Brother Industries Ltd., and Reynolds Metals Co.
are setting up their Web sites to attract the suppliers they need most. For the most part, these sites take the place of welcome booklets and supplier greeting packets that have traditionally been mailed to suppliers. The sites listed above, as well as sites run by Hitachi, Siemens, Toshiba, and others, tell prospective suppliers how the purchasing organization works and what it expects of its suppliers.
