Harley-Davidson looks to suppliers for cost savings.

Improving operational integrity-manufacturing uptime, productivity and end-product quality-is the primary target of a new MRO purchasing initiative at Harley-Davidson. The initiative is expected to save the company $51.8 million over five years, says Albert Keal, manager, materials, logistics & procurement, Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Menomonee Falls, Wis.
In the first year of implementation, it already has reduced costs by $4 million. Projected savings had been $3.2 million.
