Compaq Computer plans to quadruple monthly output of its iPaq wireless handheld units to 100,000 by first quarter 2001, says CEO Michael Capellas. Reason: Demand is outpacing supply for all types of handheld devices. Note: Handheld market leader Palm shipped 1.1 million units in second quarter 2000 and still reported huge order backlogs.
Handspring agrees that demand is outpacing its current capacity.
