Sony's latest models of the VAIO PictureBook ultra-slim laptop personal computer will be powered by the new Crusoe microprocessor, a power-saving computer chip manufactured by Transmeta that is designed to double battery life. The PictureBook is a microcomputer and digital video camera all in one.

Crusoe-powered notebook computers will also soon be sold by Hitachi, Fujitsu and Quanta (under the IBM brand name). Gateway and America Online plan to use Transmeta processors for their Internet appliance' products later this year.
