Strong demand for communications equipment and computers will result in a 37% growth in semiconductor sales for the year as the total chip market will reach $205 billion, according to Semiconductor Industry Association. Growing demand for chips by networking, broadband, wireless and optoelectronics will result in the industry growing another 22% in 2001, with sales scales approaching $250 billion.

Growth will slow in 2002 and 2003, but the chip market will reach $319 billion by 2003, the SIA says.
