Price erosion is expected. Competition is heating up among manufacturers for bigger shares of a dwindling copier market. That's both good and bad news for office technology buyers. In the short term, manufacturers may lower prices. Long term, buyers will have a smaller base from which to select copier suppliers.
Bob Sostilio, group service director, Converging Digital Peripherals Consulting Service of North America and Europe, CAP Ventures, Norwell, Mass., sees price erosion ahead for copier buyers, especially in the workgroup market segment (20-69 copies per minute or cpm), as printer manufacturers (Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Hitachi Koki) position their printer-based multifunction products (these MFPs can copy, fax and scan as well as print)...
