GM to use steel processed in Mexico at Shiloh facility.(General Motors)(Brief Article)

The steel will came from the U.S., but the key processing and assembly will be done in Mexico on General Motors Corp.'s new Mexican-built Buick Rendezvous sport recreation vehicles, which go into production next year. Buick will introduce the new vehicles as 2002 models.

Most of the steel used in the new Buick models will be galvanized sheet with pure zinc coatings from U.S. Steel Group, Pittsburgh. Shiloh De Mexico in Saltillo, a subsidiary of Shiloh Industries, will turn coil into laser-welded tailored steel blanks. Oxford De Mexico, an Oxford Automotive metal fabricating plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, will turn the blanks into body stampings.
