U.S. Steel eyes 'virtual service center' on the Web.(Brief Article)

U.S. Steel Group of USX Corp. is planning to launch within the year an online steel service center to sell mill products directly to end users, including customers in the construction and original equipment manufacturing (OEM) markets. The new company will take orders online, arrange for transportation of coils to processors, and then schedule delivery from processor to customer. The Internet venture will source its material both from USS mills and from other producers as market conditions and demand warrant.
