Congressman Donald Manzullo (R-III.) wants the Justice Department to investigate soaring steel sheet prices. (Supply: What's Happening in Markets).(Brief Article)
Purchasing, August, 2002
The chairman of the House Small Business Committee is especially upset about prices being charged to small companies, despite existing contracts, since tariffs were imposed on imports in late March. Benchmark grade hot-rolled sheet cost an average $400/ton in July, an increase of almost 54% from the average $260 in March.
Manzullo contends that U.S. steel producers have gouged small companies since the government imposed tariffs on imports.
