It will be less of a buyers' market for power ICs in 2003, but electronics purchasers can expect tags to fall 4-5% as capacity will exceed demand for commodity parts. Last year prices fell 15-20% for many power ICs. Despite the price erosion, the power management IC market grew from $4.97 billion in 2001 to $5.72 billion in 2002, according to market intelligence provider iSuppli.
The market will grow to $6.32 billion in 2003. Some segments of the power IC market will do better than others. The voltage regulator market experienced about a 22% jump in revenues in 2002 and the segment should grow another 22% in 2003, says Gary Grandbois, principal analyst for iSuppli.
