U.S. government has ruled that the South Korean government illegally subsidized memory chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor. Commerce has retaliated by imposing 44.7% tariffs on Hynix memory chips. U.S.-based competitor Micron brought the original complaint against Hynix. However, the Korean government is filing a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization, which may delay--or, later, remove--the tariffs.
