Covisint morphs: drops electronic catalogs in favor of transaction hub.(Online Sourcing)

Covisint, the online hub for the automotive industry, will no longer offer its customers content-management services for online catalogs. According to Paul Manns, director of marketing, Covisint began talking with the 350 suppliers and six buyers using the catalog services a year ago about the possibility of discontinuing the services and developing transition plans for each of the users.
Covisint does not provide actual catalogs--instead, it works with suppliers and allows them to put their content into a common form, creating a common database for buyers. That database is then provided to Covisint's customers who use it with their own tools, such as Commerce One or Oracle. "The conclusion we came to was the use of catalogs for indirect procurement...
