Ispat Inland and appliance maker Whirlpool have settled their ongoing legal battle over steel price surcharges. Whirlpool had filed the suit in a Michigan circuit court, claiming that surcharges imposed by the steel producer violated a current one-year purchase agreement. At the initial court hearing, Whirlpool received a restraining order that stopped Ispat from unilaterally imposing any surcharges on steel it supplied to the company. The order also required the steel maker to continue providing Whirlpool with the specific types of steel it uses to make clothes washers, dryers and dishwashers.
