Buyers of steel and other production materials at the major automakers are learning all about ISO/TS 16949:2002. And, if they haven't done so already, buyers of steel and other products at automotive parts plants will soon be studying the nuances of this new quality certification system. The reason: International automotive quality standards under the TS2 banner soon will replace such existing quality systems as QS-9000 and ISO 9001.
The new standard requires that registered companies have a process for measuring satisfaction to achieve quality objectives and to make continuous quality improvements.
