Semiconductor manufacturers are reporting that average prices for commodity memory chips decreased 7% to 15% in the final quarter of 2004. Daiwa Institute of Research analyst Pranab Sarmah expects firms to post "only marginally higher average selling prices" in the first calendar quarter, despite better demand, due to continued oversupply.
