TI unveils new cell phone chip.(Texas Instruments Inc introduces chip for cell phones)(Brief article)

By Staff Texas Instruments says it has developed a new chip for cell phones that can record television shows. TI says the chip will enable cellphones to watch snippets of news, sports and other programs on their phones. The chip is based on an open standard called digital video broadcast-handheld (DVB-H).

The chip will compete with another chip made by Qualcom based on a closed standard called FLO.
