DELL LEADS PCS DOWN.(Dell Inc reduces personal computers prices)(Brief article)

By Staff Dell, the world's largest personal computer maker, reduced prices of desktop and laptop models to boost market share in the second quarter. The new 'aggressive pricing' program is needed because of a slowing commercial market, says CEO Kevin Rollins. Upshot: Across the industry, average laptop prices are below their traditional floor of $1,000 and are heading toward $700, say analysts Samir Bhavnani of Current Analysis and Stephen Baker of NPD Group.
