HDTV competitors merge their systems. (high-definition television)

Sponsors of the four systems competing to be the U.S. standard for high-definition television (HDTV) merged their systems and submitted a single proposal to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for review.

The FCC's Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service is reviewing the system proposed by the "grand alliance" of former rivals. If recommended by the committee and adopted by the FCC, the all-digital standard could accelerate the information revolution that is blurring the lines between TV and computing.
