NSF Grant Supports Wireless Internet Access

The National Science Foundation is planning for the future of wireless communications by awarding a grant to the Center for Wireless Telecommunications at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg (540-231-6886), to develop a suite of software tools for wireless network system design and layout. The Virginia Tech software, GETWEBS (Geographic Engineering Tool for Wireless Evaluation of Broadband Systems) will address evolving high-speed wireless technologies, wireless interaction with the environment, and system integration and deployment. The university already is sending wireless services from the campus to two locations in Blacksburg.
