The U.S. Patent and Trademark office (USPTO) has launched a web-based search feature to allow the public increased access to the recorded assignment information of patents and trademarks already held. The Trademark Assignment portion of the program was launched in December and is now available at http://assignments.uspto.gov/assignments.

The Patent installment of the program is scheduled to go live by the end of this month. All patent assignments recorded after August 1980 and all trademark assignments recorded after 1955 will be accessible through this system, with updates being handled daily.
